Day at the Denver Museum…

November 7th, 2008

These pictures are the day after Halloween. We took Arlin and Stella to the Denver Art Museum to check out the current art exhibits. We were only able to muster our way through for about an hour and half…with Arlin Jack teething (cutting his back molars) and a forgotten pacifier…we weren’t able to stay as long as we all would have liked.

It was funny to see Stella look at the dates that the paintings were created…

“Mama, LOOK! 1934!!!”

I went on a hunt to find something even older, so she could correlate the year our house was built (1880) with a piece of art in the Denver Museum. Although I couldn’t find something that old I got closer than 1934. Stella reminded me of myself in my younger years, really museums can be quite boring when your parents drag you around and look at old art… sometimes none of it makes sense- but you do incidentally take “something” away from the experience. I used to look at the dates the paintings were created too when I was eight and I’d daydream while walking around about what life must have been back then, did they have television, cars, telephones etc…Oh, to be eight years old again!

Trick or Treat smell my feet!

Stella at the haunted house few houses down…these potion bottles were glowing in the dark!
Trying to see out of his costume?!
The Gang!
Arlin trying to pull off Stella’s helmet- pesty little brother- always!
The tricker treater trio!
Cutest Monkey in town…Palmer Sioux!
Bad to the bone Punk-ette!! Number #86
hanging at the house before we left letting the madness begin!
Arlin’s dinosaur shoes were a finishing touch to the adorable costume. I couldn’t believe he was able to cruise around in them!

Stella got here Thursday evening Chad picked her up at the airport on his way home from Seattle (her Mom was actually flying out the same night to New Mexico)

Stella’s wish was to be a dead Denver Roller Doll derby girl. I told her we’d get to Target early Friday and see what we could do- but my one request…was she not be a “dead” roller derby girl!!!

We luckily found an army girl costume that I thought I could modify in the short amount of time I had, so we bought it. It came with the dress and and pair of army knee high vinyl boots you wear over your real shoes…I cut the knee high boot part off and we painted wheels on the sides, cut holes for some bright neon skate laces…they were her “sudo” roller skates! I painted her own Punk-ette # 86 name patch for the back of her dress, pinned on my Green Barrette patch from Master Sarge on the chest along with my derby love patch and let her pick which of my derby knee high socks she wanted to wear. The finishing touches were adding some stickers to her helmet that we bought, and I painted her number on it too, I even let her wear my dog tags that my team gave me at the Season Championship bout…she LOVED this outfit and wanted to wear it all day to the Denver Museum on Saturday!

Right before we left the house to go trick or treating…Stella accidentally rubbed her right eye…smearing all the make up I put on her, she started to get upset about it tell till Abby, Anna Maria and I all told her it was actually perfectly awesome- she now was an “official” roller derby girl with a black eye! She got a big kick out of the mishap and we were off for loads of candy!

And indeed she got loads of CANDY!…Stella ate so much candy she got seriously sick Saturday evening. At about 4pm after coming home from the park she started complaining her stomach hurt real bad. At dinner about an hour later she blew chips everywhere in the kitchen! Ugh…it was bad. Real bad. I knew it wasn’t from anything she had eaten- cause I had shared my food with her for the past two days, and I was fine. I found her candy bag pretty depleted in the closet, and quite a few scattered candy wrappers around her room and under the bed…It was a fun trip to Urgent Care at midnight… slap on the hand from Papa for not fessing up to how much candy she sneaked…and a hard learned lesson- You CAN eat too much candy! Oh, how we’ve all been there. Sunday she laid around all day watching movies, I think she paid the piper this Halloween…poor Stel.

Fall Days…round here…

Arlin in his new custom knit cap from Betty, you have to sneak attack put it on- cause the minute he sees the balls- it’s off!
I raked all the leaves in the back yard this morning…Arlin ate dirt.
them purdy blues!
I love his frankenstein walk!
He tries riding his cart…it’s pretty funny…you’d think he thought his legs were longer!

I took Arlin for his ONE year check up on Monday. Boy it was not fun. 5 shots and a prick in big toe for led testing because we live in an old house. This was the first time getting shots he associated pain with the nurse who dealt it…He got so mad at one of the nurses (yes it took me and 2 nurses to keep him contained for the rounds of shots) he swatted at her!!! I’m not joking he tried to swat at her arm holding the needle. It was a bit funny… but the nurse didn’t think so. I don’t blame him- shots stink.
He got an excellent bill of health and the doctor was very impressed with his motor skills and walking. His 75% percentile across the board, hasn’t gained much weight but I guess that’s normal with him now walking.

Yesterday we took little man to the Denver Botanical Gardens at Chatfield to hopefully see the Pumpkin Patch. You snooze you lose I guess, cause these were the only handful of pumpkins we saw. The corn maze was pretty cool though, at least Chad and I thought so, I had never seen one, Arlin was more into the pony’s and picking rocks off the ground…but heh that’s what one year olds do right?! (Check out Arlin’s new tee…Uncle Joel and Kirk spoiled him Saturday big time at the Lucky Brand store…..I mean BIG time!)

Walk…Walk…Walk!

again the uploading turned the picture sideways…but Arlin was about to launch himself head first down this slide, I swear he has no fear! And he loves girls!!! He is such a flirt!

Captain Jack is officially a walker! Bad Mommy…I forgot to send a news flash (sorry I’ve been feeling sick with the flu or something) Yep…on the 21st after a great afternoon nap and some new Nike kicks (well hammy downs)-he started walking in front of Chad and I…now it’s almost always he chooses to walk instead of crawl!

Aren’t these guys the best?!

It didn’t take Arlin long to figure it all out. I can’t believe how much of it he actually ate!

I don’t know why this picture keeps u[ploading sideways…but whatever. This was Captain’s very own cake to dive into.
Another full shot…I’m pretty stoked we actually made it come to life…

more birthday…

October 24th, 2008

Arlin’s new walker from Pamaw and Grandpa Sarge. …he digs this toy! His favorite thing is to open the Peek-a-Boo barn door he laughs everytime like it’s the first time his heard it…so easily amused.

The Pirate Ship cake…thanks for the help Mom- there’s no way I could have pulled it off without you and your research! ingredients; Hershey Bar chocolate/plank top, pretzel squares/port holes/, wafer twist/steer of the ship…and the rest lots and lots of frosting!

1st Birthday…lots of pictures

October 19th, 2008

It’s going to take Mama some time to resize all of Arlin Jack’s 1st Birthday pictures and post em’. Check out the family gallery that Chad made to see all the pictures- I’ve uploaded most of them there. Arlin’s Birthday went really well… More than I could ask for, Arlin was able to nap right before the party started, putting him in a good mood for the gift un-wrapping and cake! Pamaw was here to help out with everything and I could not have pulled it off without her! The cake/s were a masterpiece by the way- pictures coming stay tuned… P.S….pamaw we miss you already!
